Lobola is a longstanding African tradition meant to honour a bride’s family and unite two households. However, with rising costs — often reaching tens of thousands of rands — some feel it’s become a financial burden rather than a cultural celebration. What’s your view on lobola in today’s economic climate?

It depends on the person and their family. Some are in it for love, others for financial gain. Sadly, it’s rare these days to find someone truly genuine.
