Another delay in Van der Walt assault case

Thabazimbi – The long wait for justice continues for Leon and Monique van der Walt as the assault case against Andrew Wynand Hoffman has once again been postponed — this time to 28 August 2025. The matter was heard on Thursday 17 July 2025, and the court granted the postponement for consideration of a Section 105A plea and sentence agreement. Bail has been extended.

Section 105A of South Africa’s Criminal Procedure Act allows for a negotiated guilty plea between the accused and the state, potentially bypassing a full trial. This latest development could signal a turning point in the case — or yet another delay in the Van der Walt family’s pursuit of closure.

Leon van der Walt was violently assaulted in September 2024, and since then, he and his wife Monique have endured a gruelling legal journey marked by repeated postponements, shifting legal representation, and procedural delays. Despite it all, the couple has remained steadfast, bolstered by the support and prayers of their community.
