Northam – A 41-year-old man’s attempt to land a mine job with fraudulent qualifications has backfired, ending in handcuffs. The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, 13 August 2025, in Brits and made his first court appearance the following day in the Northam Magistrate’s Court.

According to colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the arrest followed a case opened by a complainant from one of the mines in the Northam policing area. Investigations by the Limpopo Provincial Commercial Crime Investigation Unit revealed that the man had applied for a higher-level position in August 2023, using a fake blasting certificate. 

Police have confirmed that further arrests may follow as investigations continue.

This arrest serves as a reminder that fraudulent qualifications not only put lives at risk in highly technical industries like mining but also carry serious legal consequences.
