The Red-Eyed Songster of Thabazimbi… If you’ve ever heard cheerful whistling in your garden, it might be the African red-eyed bulbul. This small bird, with its bright red eye-ring and lively chatter, is a true bushveld entertainer. Common in and around Thabazimbi, bulbuls love feasting on fruit, often helping nature by spreading seeds as they go. They’re also famous mimics, sometimes copying the calls of other birds. Next time you see one hopping about, remember — you’re looking at one of the bushveld’s most spirited little singers!
