A Wildlife Day to Remember
Koedoeskop – Laughter, learning, and a love for nature filled the air at Laerskool Koedoeskop on Friday, 15 August 2025, when Wildlife Ranching South Africa (WRSA) hosted a special Wildlife Awareness Day.
With the slogan “Our Wildlife, Our Future”, WRSA set out to instil in learners the importance of protecting South Africa’s natural heritage. Children from Grade RR to Grade 7 were treated to a day that blended education with fun, making conservation something they could truly connect with.
Learning through experience
The learners discovered the fascinating world of animal tracking, the role of wildlife in ecosystems, and the value of safeguarding habitats. But it wasn’t all classroom-style learning — outdoor activities ensured children had hands-on experiences. Games like tug of war, sack races, knot-tying, and cultural flag ceremonies turned the day into a celebration of teamwork, heritage, and nature.
A cultural collaboration
Adding to the excitement, the Voortrekkers joined in partnership with WRSA to share their traditions and outdoor skills. Together, they created a memorable platform for children to learn not just about wildlife, but also about cultural pride and responsibility toward the land.
Gifts that keep the spirit alive
Every learner took home a wildlife-themed colouring book — a keepsake to continue their conservation journey at home, while reminding them that protecting wildlife starts with small steps.
Community thanks
Acting principal Lize Malan extended gratitude to WRSA, the Voortrekkers, and all involved, saying the event highlighted the value of collaboration in education. “Koedoeskop is at the heart of farming and wildlife culture in the greater Thabazimbi district. Days like these inspire our children to grow up as custodians of both heritage and nature,” she said.
