More than just an operational upgrade, the announcement celebrates the bond between handlers and their dogs — loyal partners whose instincts, courage, and keen senses often mean the difference between loss and life.

Developed in partnership with the established Thabazimbi K9 Unit, this initiative represents a significant step forward in strengthening local search and rescue capacity. These highly trained dogs will not only enhance the team’s ability to locate missing persons and respond to emergencies, but will also bring an irreplaceable combination of determination, sensitivity, and unwavering devotion to every mission.

Formal training for personnel and their dogs will begin in February 2026, laying the groundwork for a fully operational, specialised unit within the same year.
