Did you know? YOUR TYRES DON’T STOP LIGHTNING!

Your car’s rubber tyres do not protect you from lightning. In a fully enclosed vehicle with a metal roof and sides, the outer metal shell conducts the electrical current around the occupants and towards the ground. Keep the windows closed and avoid touching exposed metal or plugged-in electrical devices. Convertibles and open vehicles do not offer the same protection. A strike can still damage tyres, windows and electronics – so while the car may help protect you, it could need more than a service afterwards!
