Thabazimbi, give someone a tomorrow

Platinum Bushvelder newspaper | Thabazimbi – A small act of kindness could give another family more time together this festive season.

Residents can help by supporting these upcoming blood donation drives:

• 18 November 2026 | 14:00–18:00

• 2 December 2026 | 14:00–18:00

Venue for both drives: NG Kerk, Thabazimbi.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is appealing to eligible donors to step forward as national blood stocks come under pressure ahead of the holidays. According to information supplied on 27 October, the national supply had fallen below four days, short of SANBS’s preferred reserve of at least five days, said Tinyiko Mathe, SANBS donor relations practitioner in Rustenburg.

Stock levels vary between blood groups, meaning the pressure is not equal across all types. However, donors from every group are needed to help ensure patients receive compatible blood. SANBS requires approximately 3,500 units daily for patients needing emergency treatment, surgery, cancer care and help with childbirth complications. One donation can help save up to three lives.

Examinations have reduced collection opportunities at schools and universities, adding to the pressure on supplies.

Thabazimbi residents are encouraged to diarise both donation dates. First-time donors must be between 16 and 75 years old, weigh at least 50 kg and pass the required health screening. Eat a meal or snack before donating.

This festive season, your most meaningful gift could be the one that helps someone live to celebrate it.
