TLM launch Traditional Health Practitioners Forum

Thabazimbi – A body representing traditional health practitioners, the Thabazimbi Local Municipality Traditional Health Practitioners Forum (THPF) was launched on 6 April in Thabazimbi. The Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) invited traditional health practitioners from all wards of the municipality to be part of this structure. 

Speaking at the launch, TLM mayor Midah Moselane said:

“We had to ensure that all wards are represented in this structure. The municipality has a long standing relationship with traditional health practitioners. What still neaded to be done was to launch an official structure spearheaded by the municipality to advise on matters concerning traditional healing.”

It is envisaged that the THPF structure would be working closely with the Local Aids Council of the Municipality to deal with matters that concern the legislative framework affecting health in the country. 

It is also expected that the structure would assist during awareness creation on health and healing matters. A statement from the municipality indicated that all traditional health practitioners will undergo screening for licensing purposes.

“The THPF will work closely with other structures that already exist in the municipality and government departments such as the Department of Health, South African Police Services, Department of Education, Department of Roads and Transport for road cleansing,  Correctional Services and NGOs,” the statement read.
