REBUILDING THE THABAZIMBI ECONOMY

Thabazimbi – The Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) is on a drive to rebuild its economy through private sector and government investments to create jobs, TLM mayor Midah Moselane said at a tourism indaba held at the Thutong Environment Education Learning Centre in Marakele National Park on Friday, 18 May.

The tourism indaba attracted various key stakeholders.

“The Thabazimbi Local Municipal economy faces unacceptably high levels of unemployment. The primary objective of this session is to rebuild and review the economy of Thabazimbi as a whole through private sector and government investments, and subsequently explore sustainable opportunities for job creation,” said mayor Moselane.

Mayor Moselane pointed out that the TLM is a pillar for inclusive economic growth, but that other sectors such as mining and agriculture sectors, also present their own unique opportunities.

She also said Thabazimbi had a myriad of jewels and that Marakele National Park was an anchor to build tourism economy around. “With infrastructure such as the Tourism Information Centre already built and with a well-established wildlife and hunting market boasting world-class facilities, there is no reason why Thabazimbi cannot grow into a destination of choice for domestic and international tourists.”

Presenting the district’s vision, MMC for good governance and administration for the Waterberg District Municipality, councillor Freddy Hlungwani, said the Waterberg have three economic pillars, namely mining, agriculture and tourism.

In fact, in the Limpopo Province, Waterberg is the tourism destination of choice as it cuts across all the five local municipalities.
