Smuggling bust at correctional services

Brits – Two community members were arrested by the Correctional Services’ emergency support team (EST) of Losperfontein Correctional Centre on Thursday, 25 October.

Officials acted on a tip-off that the suspects would drop off contraband at the centre’s agricultural field to be smuggled into the premises.

The suspects tried to flee, but EST caught up with them and searched the vehicle. Two cell phones, 35 balls of dagga, 25 nyaope parcels and 26 cell phone sim cards were found in the suspects’ possession.

The area commissioner of Rustenburg management area, Mamokete Mogorosi, congratulated the EST for their vigilance and dedication to their work. 

Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West correctional services acting deputy regional commissioner, Takalani Mashamba, said: “Smuggling is an assisted process. I urge the public to desist from helping offenders to perpetuate crimes.”
