MAYOR FIRED BY TRA PARTY

Thabazimbi – After a drawn-out court battle between two councillors of the Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) and the Thabazimbi Residents Association (TRA) party, on 21 November the Constitutional Court upheld the decision of judge Muller made on 25 May 2018 to dismiss the two councillors.

Midah Moselane and Mpho Moloko were expelled by their party, the TRA in 2017. This means that Mida Moselane is now forced to step down as mayor of the TLM.

All this followed after the TRA has – according to reports – split into two factions, of which one of the sides decided to get rid of the mayor and councillor Mpho Moloko. In 2016 the TRA emerged as king makers after the local government elections. 
According to a TLM press release no vacancies could be declared while the legal processes were ongoing. 

After the Constitutional Court’s ruling, municipal manager TG Ramagaga declared vacancies for the two councillors of the TRA – as instructed by the court order of judge Muller. 

The IEC responded with the names of Mr JM Fisher and Ms CS Sikwane to replace the proportional representatives of the TRA. These two representatives of the TRA will be inaugurated during a Special Council sitting on Friday 7 December 2018.
