TLM clears Northam's dumpsite

Northam – For most communities, an actively operating landfill is imperative. It continues to be a necessary evil. 

To mitigate the problem, the Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) kept to the agreement made during a meeting on 12 January with the Northam Rate Payers Association (NRPA) and started the process of cleaning the landfill site in Northam. 

For three years, the Northam community had to make do with dumping ‘illegally’ as access to the existing dumpsite was, at times, completely impossible. A non-operational dumpsite poses a serious health hazard.

The clean-up operation was launched on Saturday 26 January.
Anglo American Platinum’s Amandelbult Complex, Tumela Mine, arranged for machinery to assist TLM with the clean-up. 

“I would like to thank the TLM for their services. A special thanks to Tumela Mine for the use of their equipment. We urge community members to adhere to the landfill regulations to control the dumping site. We need to work hand in hand to avoid further inconveniences,” said NRPA chairperson David Gouveia. 
TLM speaker Bertie Joubert said: “The management of TLM works around the clock with key role players to assist with services like the clean-up operation”.
