NOTICE OF WATER USE LICENSE APPLICATION TO SUPPORT THE NEW OPENCAST PIT TOGETHER WITH ITS OVERBURDEN DUMP AT SIYANDA BAKGATLA PLATINUM MINE – UNION MINE
Project: Application for water use license (in terms section 21 to support the new opencast pit together with its overburden dump at Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine – Union Mine. Notice is hereby given that of a Water Use Licence Application in terms of the National Water Act, 1998 (Act No. 36 of 1998) have been submitted to the Department of Water and Sanitation.
Location: The project is situated on the Remaining Extent of Portion 2 of the farm Swartklip 405 KQ situated in Swartklip within both the Waterberg & Bojanala Platinum District Municipalities. The project location traverses farms with two municipalities within two provinces (Limpopo and North-West).
Project Description: The following water use activities will potentially be triggered: (a) taking water from a water resource; (c) impeding or diverting the flow of water in a watercourse; (g) disposing of waste in a manner which may detrimentally impact on a water resource; (j) removing, discharging or disposing of water found underground if it is necessary for the efficient continuation of an activity or for the safety of people. The proposed activity requires an application in terms of Section 21 of the National Water Act, 1998 (Act 36 of 1998) for its various water use activities across the construction, operational and decommissioning phases.
