Thabazimbi – A serious collision between a white Hyundai i20 and an abnormal load brought traffic to a standstill on Thursday afternoon, 2 October 2025, along the R511 just after Cotton Gin on the Thabazimbi–Koedoeskop–Brits Road.

The accident occurred around 15:00 when the small vehicle collided with the abnormal load truck heading toward Ellisras (Lephalale). Fortunately, the driver of the Hyundai sustained only minor injuries.

Following the impact, the massive load shifted, completely blocking the roadway for several hours. Emergency teams worked tirelessly to stabilise and reposition the load. Once secured, responders assisted in moving the abnormal load up to Foodzone/ MBT in Thabazimbi, where it was safely removed from the road around 00:30. The following morning, the Ellisras Traffic Department escorted the load further toward its destination.

Responders on the scene included Thaba Fire & Rescue, Thabazimbi Traffic Department, Wildmed Emergency Services, Waterberg Emergency Services, Limpopo Traffic, and Rieks Towing (Pretoria).

“We are extremely thankful that no lives were lost. This incident shows the importance of patience and safety when sharing the road with abnormal loads,” said Pierre Loots, director of Thaba Fire & Rescue.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
