Crocodile River Faces Sewage Threat
[Information supplied by a Democratic Alliance (DA) press release]
A DA release alleges that failing sewage infrastructure in Madibeng — including a non-functional treatment plant and several broken pump stations — has led to raw sewage being diverted into stormwater drains that flow into the Crocodile River.
The reported daily pollution raises concerns for public health, food security, and the health of one of the province’s key waterways. Farmers downstream have expressed fears about possible crop losses and water contamination. The matter has been raised with Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, Sello Seitlholo, for urgent intervention.
