Thabazimbi bids farewell to Peter Balani

Platinum Bushvelder newspaper | Thabazimbi – The Thabazimbi community mourns the heartbreaking loss of Peter Balani, a beloved resident whose life was tragically cut short in a fatal accident on Thursday, 15 January 2026.

The collision occurred shortly after midday on the R510 towards Lephalale, approximately 25 kilometres outside Thabazimbi. The accident involved a heavy motor vehicle, a side-tipper truck, and a Ford Ranger bakkie in a head-on collision. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.

Emergency services on the scene included Thabazimbi Traffic, SAPS Hoopdal, Bela-Bela Pathology, state ambulance services, and P&K Towing and Recovery.

Peter, the driver of the bakkie, sadly passed away at the scene. His sudden passing has left an immeasurable void in the lives of his family, friends, and the wider Thabazimbi community. A proud Thabazimbi resident and former learner of Hoërskool Frikkie Meyer, Peter was known for his warmth, humility, and unwavering dedication to his family. Those who knew him remember a man with a gentle smile and a generous heart — someone who showed up for others without hesitation.

“He was a good friend and a beloved member of the Thabazimbi community,” said Pierre Loots. Peter leaves behind his wife and four children. While their loss is deeply personal, it is one shared by an entire town that has rallied around them in compassion and support.

Tributes have poured in from across the community. Damsa Dance Studio, where Peter was fondly known as a proud and committed “dance dad,” shared the following message on social media: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of one of our awesome Dance Dads. Our deepest condolences to the Balani family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. He was a proud and supportive dance dad, and his presence will be truly missed by our studio family. May you find comfort in the love and memories you shared.”

Peter Balani will be laid to rest on Saturday, 24 January 2026, during a funeral service to be held at 11:00 at Trollope Saal, Warmbadweg, Thabazimbi. Following the service, a celebration of Peter’s life will take place at Kameeldoring Oasis, Thabazimbi, where family and friends are invited to join in a bring-and-braai gathering — a tribute to a man who valued togetherness and community.
