Help young soccer stars to achieve their goals

Thabazimbi - Deportivo Football Club is a soccer team based in Thabazimbi and is made up of youth from 11 to 15 from different backgrounds. 

Their main goal is to take the young boys off the streets where they are exposed to substance and alcohol abuse – offering them a better chance at a brighter future. The players are taught discipline, morals and self-worth irrespective of their social and economic history.

In an interview with Platinum Bushvelder team manager David Magwai said:

“Most of the kids that we train are from disadvantaged backgrounds and cannot always afford the necessities to pursue their passion for the sport.

It’s heart-breaking to see such talent and passion going to waste.”

The club comprise of three teams; under 11- under 13- and under 15- from Regorogile, Ipelegeng and Thabazimbi. Some of the players walk from as far as Regorogile Extensions to Thaba Park for the daily practice sessions.

This alone should stand as a testimony to the passion and commitment that these kids bring to the wonderful game of soccer. 

The club helps young boys nurture their football talents and the hope is that the kids will be recognized by soccer institutes countrywide. With the support from the community, this objective can become a reality.

Gezanin Chauke heard their plea. He visited the club on 16 July and donated soccer balls to the players. 

“I was very impressed with the players. Their football skills are amazing, and I am inspired by their passion for the sport.

I am grateful for the opportunity to help them achieve their goals,” said Gezani.
