DA-led initiative spruces up Northam    

Northam – The Democratic Alliance (DA) and Northam Ratepayers Association (NRPA) joined hands with local business owners to clean up the streets of this Limpopo town. 

The initiative, held on Saturday 14 March, was a resounding success and dirty areas – such as the spot alongside the railway in Ruby Street – are now a thing of the past. 

NRPA chairperson David Gouveiea also assisted by cutting the long grass. 

Desire van der Walt, a member of parliament, used a shovel to weed out the grass from the pavement and sidewalks. 

Everyone involved worked very hard throughout the morning and by the time they completed their tasks, the difference was very noticeable. 

Sam van Zyl from Rent A Drum and Flip de Beer from Total Gaz provided the lorries to ferry the refuse away.  

The Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) also provided their refuse collection vehicle for use.   
After the cleanup, a letter from TLM alerting business owners and community members about the heavy fines that can be issued to those who illegally dump their refuse was handed out.  

“Thank you to everyone who participated in all the hard work for this cleanup. It just shows that if we join hands, we can accomplish anything,” said Gouveiea.
