Raising awareness about breast cancer

Rustenburg – Tunisi Programme is a company based in Phokeng, specialising in developing the youth to help them become responsible and successful members of the community.

Tunisi's team of healthcare workers conducted local research to understand the core challenges regarding breast cancer awareness in our local communities and found that late diagnoses remains the biggest challenge – especially in the disadvantaged communities. Joining hands with Maemo Motors, they will raise breast cancer awareness.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the South African female population and accounts for most cancer-related deaths in females. Early detection, especially through robust screening programmes can drastically change this reality.

THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT

• To raise awareness about breast cancer in the local communities.
• Educate members of the community about breast cancer.
• To encourage breast self-examinations and emphasise the importance of good health-seeking behaviour.
• To positively influence the rate of early detection of breast cancer.
• To contribute to an improved and convenient healthcare system for breast cancer patient management in the public healthcare system.
