Taking a stand against farm murders

Thabazimbi – In almost every town and city across South Africa, the message of Black Monday was seen, heard, and felt on Sunday 25 October.

The national movement is about uniting against the inhumane and brutal murder of farmers and farm workers. The attacks are also detrimental to agricultural output and the economy. The movement aims to raise global awareness of the farm murders and attacks in South Africa. Although theft is cited as the main reason behind farm attacks many have displayed unnecessary and inhumane brutality.

The people of Thabazimbi and surrounding areas showed mass support by gathering at the Thabazimbi showgrounds. The proceedings were opened with a prayer asking God to protect the South African agricultural community. A memorandum was handed over to lieutenant general Philemon Bodibe and Thabazimbi Local Municipality Disaster Management manager Gerrie Visagie. The gathering proceeded to drive through the town to an area alongside the R510 where a symbolic white cross was erected showing a united front against brutal farm murders.
