A win for green energy

Lephalale –The Thabametsi coal-fired power plant that was to be developed in Lephalale, Limpopo province, has officially been withdrawn by its sponsors and KEPCO-Marubeni consortium.

In a public statement released on Friday 27 November, 350Africa.org informed their supporters that the coal-fired plant would no longer be built and urged South Africa to rather use the R12.57 billion funds to build towards COVID-19 recovery.

Other South African organisations that contributed to stop the coal-fired power plant included the Centre of Environmental Rights, Earthlife Africa, Just Share, GroundWork, Earthjustice as well as community-based organisations and individuals.
