R40 000 reward to catch arsonist 

Northam – Total destruction and devastation in the wake of a runaway veld fire occurred near Northam on Sunday 25 July and hundreds of hectares were lost.

The fire swept through two farms destroying everything in its path. Community members bravely fought the fire for hours on end, but not before 86 hectares of the one farm and 250 hectares of the other was ruined.

The fire index in Thabazimbi is currently on orange, which means fire danger is high and that no open fires are allowed under any circumstances. Runaway fires spread rapidly and cause extreme damage.

After establishing that the fire was ignited on purpose (arson), a reward of R40 000 was offered for information that will lead to the successful arrest of the arsonist(s).
