A win for local service delivery

Thabazimbi – PPC Dwaalboom boosted the service delivery capacity of the Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) on Tuesday 14 September by donating a front-end loader and five skip bins to them. 

This donation could not have come at a better time. The municipality was crippled by previous administrations and is well on its way to recovery. Much needed equipment like this front-end loader and bins will help them to manage their waste sites more effectively.

TLM mayor councillor John Fischer, councillors Sanny Ndlovu, Tokkie Swanepoel, PPC general manager (GM) Fortune Mashimbye and inland business unit head Bheki Mthembu were present during the handover. 

Acknowledging this enormous gesture, councillor Fischer said: “We want to ensure that our communities live in a clean and healthy environment.

This equipment will be utilised to improve our service delivery. Illegal dumping must also be addressed without further delay.”

The relationship between TLM and PPC’s Dwaalboom operations comes a long way and is strengthened by the huge role PPC plays in supporting the municipality to better serve our community. 

In August 2020, PPC donated a cherry picker and also assisted the municipality in repairing transformers at its mini substations. Thanks to PPC, new electrical motor control panels were also installed at Thabazimbi’s water pump station. 

Inland business unit head at PPC Bheki Mthembu said that PPC would always explore ways of assisting the municipality to fulfil its service delivery mandate.

He said: “At the core of everything we do, PPC exists to empower people to experience a better quality of life. And it is through projects like these that we continue to deliver on our purpose.

We have opted to choose this particular project as it aligns with our strategic objectives of reducing our overall carbon footprint by working with others towards a cleaner environment.”  

Mashimbye, who echoed similar sentiments, underscored how the waste management equipment would help to preserve the environment. “The Thabazimbi community is our partner and neighbour, so we need to safeguard their livelihoods from an environmental management, health and safety point of view.”
