Sssnake season

Thabazimbi – We spoke to owner of Reptile Inc Petrus van Breda, about the snake season which is on our doorstep.

“Since it is getting warmer now, the community should be aware that snakes will start moving around. I received a few calls of Python sightings around Thabazimbi, but have not yet caught one.”

He shared a few safety tips: “Keep the area around your house clean, so that you can easily spot a snake. If you do come across a snake, keep a safe distance, of at least three metres and call a snake catcher.

When doing so, make sure you keep an eye on the snake, as they can easily disappear, which would then take up a lot of time for the snake catcher, which is usually a voluntary service, to find it.” 

“The bigger pythons will start getting out of their holes and some of their eggs will either start hatching now, or has already hatched. They will start looking for a place in the sun,” Van Breda says.
