Captain Modise set for retirement

Thabazimbi – After 35 years on duty, including six years as South African Police Service (SAPS) acting station commander (at both Hoopdal and Thabazimbi), captain Ananias Modise (60) is set to retire on Thursday 28 February 2023.

Captain Modise started his career at SAPS in 1987 at the age of twenty-four. Captain Modise was the first in his family to join the South African Police Services and made captain in 2015 in Hoopdaal. He later became the SAPS acting station commander in Thabazimbi in 2021.

During his time at Hoopdal (2015-2018) where captain Modise became the station commander in 2017, his station was nominated for the best performing police station in the Limpopo province. To this day, captain Modise still has the envelope in which he received his performance bonus. He kept the envelope as a reminder that hard work and dedication makes a big difference.  

Captain Modise’s advice to younger officers is to stay disciplined, abide by the code of conduct, and to respect seniors. He said that officers should uphold the constitution of South Africa and put the needs of the community first. “Whatever you are doing, let God be the driver of your life’s vehicle, don’t let Him take the back seat,” said captain Modise in an interview with Platinum Bushvelder.

He said that he is excited about the adventure of retirement, as he is going to take the opportunity to spend more time with his wife to whom he has been married to for thirty years. Captain Modise also plans to spend time with his family—especially his grandkids.

Captain Modise, who is also a pastor, further plans to put his extra time into helping the church and his community. “I have served my country, now I am going to work for God.”
