Roads Agency Limpopo and Thabazimbi Local Municipality address road issues

Thabazimbi – On Wednesday 14 June 2023 TLM started with the resealing and patching of potholes project of internal streets in Northam by attending to some streets in Northam Extension 2 and Northam CBD as well as Thabazimbi Road. 

Motorists and residents of the Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) are due for an improved driving experience as the Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL) collaborates with municipalities to implement road infrastructure service delivery. RAL draws from its vast expertise to assist the municipality with maintenance works. 

As part of the collaboration between RAL and TLM, streets such as Chroom, Onyx, Botha, Oppal, Tungsten, Platina, and Mangaan Streets within Northam Township will be addressed to make them pleasant to drive on.  

Part of the scope of work on these streets includes addressing road issues such as pothole deep patching, milling, and overlay in various streets that have seen considerable deterioration over the years. These streets fall within the municipality’s town and residential areas. 

RAL endeavours to foster collaborative efforts amongst all the stakeholders in the province’s road infrastructure delivery. Through the cooperative approach, the Agency anticipates a display of noticeable impact, which will improve the driving experience for the people of the Limpopo Province.

The municipal collaborations are in accordance with a successful inter-governmental pilot project in Mogalakwena Local Municipality. This led to other municipalities calling for similar assistance by entering into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with RAL and overseen by the provincial government. 

The MoA gives effect to a deliberate district development model that calls on district mayors to be in the frontline of streamlining efforts on initiatives that seek to achieve a shared vision and execute road infrastructure development programmes.

Platinum Bushvelder reached out RAL to establish whether roads in Thabazimbi were up for maintenance. According to RAL Thabazimbi is on the map for repairs, but targeted roads are yet to be announced.
