Fun and games 

Thabazimbi - Thabang Children’s Project hosted a fun-filled sports day at the Thabang Child and Youth Centre on Thursday 15 June 2023.

Neos Christian School and Koedoeskop Primary School learners, educators, and parents joined in the soccer and netball camaraderie. The day was an excellent opportunity for the kids to get together and have fun on and off the soccer and netball courts.

 
The Thabang Children’s Project makes a difference with the services of its Child and Youth Centre and its drop-in centre at Smash Block. The youth centre accommodates 32 children who need care and attention.

Abused, neglected, orphaned, and abandoned children are placed in Thabang’s care by the state until alternatives can be identified. Meanwhile the drop-in centre at Smash Block helps children—who are identified with the help of the Department of Social Development—with their homework and provides them with a daily meal. Additionally, Thabang’s drop-in centre also provides educators who help with the children’s studies twice a month, as well as several other upliftment initiatives.

Trollope Mining Services helped to make the sports day possible as they donated a multi-court—which was completed in November 2022—to the Thabang Children’s Project. The kids can play soccer, tennis, netball, hockey, and cricket to their hearts’ desire on the multi-court.  

“We are very proud of what was achieved with this project and the smiles, and sense of sportsmanship is heartwarming,” said Trollope Mining Services event organiser Cindy Pistorius. The successful sports day had Koedoeskop Primary School learners walk away as the overall netball champs, while Thabang’s children took overall victory on the soccer field. 

“It was a blessing to see the learners, parents, and educators, come together and have a good time with our kids. It was also a pleasure to share our multi-court and to see our kids engage with others on the field,” said Thabang Children’s Project chief executive officer Linda Grobler.
