Give a Little, Feed a Lot
Thabazimbi – In the heart of our community, a powerful movement is quietly transforming lives – one meal, one smile, and one act of kindness at a time. Thabazimbi Feed the Poor (soon to be called ROOTS to WINGS), a non-profit organisation, is feeding more than 150 children every single day. But their work goes far beyond food.
From providing clothing and toiletries to ensuring kids have school uniforms and a sense of dignity, this passionate team has become a safety net for children who would otherwise be left behind. The organisation also reports serious welfare cases to SASA, following them up relentlessly until families begin to change – a process that takes immense perseverance, but one they say is filled with hope.
Community sponsorship is the backbone of this mission. A local mine contractor recently donated a 3-burner gas stove along with all the 48kg gas needed to cook daily. Another generous company helps fund staff, office costs, and even supports the Veggie GaKae Project, which has helped ten households start their own vegetable gardens at home.
The local churches regularly support the organisation – one with monthly donations and project assistance, the other sharing excess goods like milk and clothing when available. Community members also chip in with second-hand clothes and cash donations. Some of the children only have two sets of clothing. Every shirt makes a difference.
A generous game farmer lends a helping hand by donating quality meat, ensuring the children receive much-needed protein in their meals. Right now, Thabazimbi Feed the Poor is also collecting Bibles, blankets, vegetables, and other essentials to support over 700 households living without electricity. Every contribution helps bring warmth, nourishment, and hope.
