Stop spreading false rumours

Thabazimbi/ Northam – Over the past few weeks the Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) has received numerous complaints regarding water shortages in Thabazimbi, Regorogile and Northam.

 
On Tuesday 25 October Magalies Water Board officially notified the municipalities of Rustenburg, Moses Kotane, Thabazimbi and Royal Bafokeng, as well as all the mines operating in the respective municipalities, that there will be low water pressure and possible water supply interruptions due to high water demand.

Even before that, the TLM issued a water restriction on 17 September 2018, which is still effective until the area received at least 25mm rain. Unfortunately, many consumers do not adhere to notices. Additionally, the municipality experiences water leaks from time to time. They tend to it as soon as possible; yet it can also lead to water interruptions.

Malicious rumours are doing the rounds that the TLM is experiencing water restrictions due to non-payment to Magalies Water Board. This is not the case. TLM pays Magalies Water Board as per its continued arrangement and R2.11 million have been paid to them as on 29 October 2018.

Northam residents have also been very disappointed about the water disruptions and the technical department is planning to ensure that water be channelled accordingly. Over the next few weeks a faulty booster pump will be fixed to ensure better water pressure on the old Northam water reservoir.

Installation of pressure valves will be initiated to control the water pressure inside the pipe network.
Better water management is being arranged in accordance with Magalies Water Board in order to ensure that water be distributed more efficiently in the affected areas. 

Furthermore, according to the director: technical services, the current infrastructure isn’t efficient and effective enough to ensure constant water supply to Koedoesdoorn, Mojuteng and Wildebeeslaagte. 

The TLM will engage with the mines and other stakeholders to assist in building reservoirs to ensure higher water pressure in the water network. Additionally, the residents of Wildebeeslaagte will be engaged to find a solution regarding the inadequate water infrastructure.

The TLM also plans to install prepaid water meters.
