Requirements

Eland Platinum Mine is a mining operation which forms part of the Northam Platinum Limited group.  It is situated near the vibrant towns of the North West Province—Brits and Hartebeestpoort and Pretoria, the administrative capital city of South Africa.  The mine is a high quality growth-enabling asset currently in a development phase and has a life expectancy of 30 year.  The Eland mining     operation is a shallow hybrid UG2 PGMs reef, built in decline shafts that give access to the orebody reserves. 

Role requirements 
The successful candidate must have the following basic requirements: 

•    Grade 12 with Maths (HG) and Science (HG) or equivalent at NQF level 4
•    Chamber of Mines Strata Control Officers Certificate
•    Relevant Tertiary Qualification (B.Sc. Geology / B.Tech Mining / B.Sc. Mining / B.Eng. Mining, Mathematics, Physics)
•    Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in conventional hard rock underground mining
•    English proficiency
•    Computer Literacy (Microsoft Office, MicroStation V8i, Sable and Rocscience)
•    Medical Certificate of Fitness
•    No Criminal Record
•    Mines Rescue Services Member-Advantageous

Key performance areas 

•    Monthly updates of panel risk ratings before planning meetings
•    Conduct TARP 3 investigations as and when required.
•    Identify geological features and their associated risks during underground visits
•    Issue Strata Control Officer reports with observations and recommendations following underground visits
•    Geotechnically log all underground and surface boreholes (cover, geological) and log in Sable
•    Log borehole cameras on Sable database and plot in Microstation daily
•    Conduct on the job training on TARP and other Rock Engineering standards and procedures when underground or daily
•    Management of the Strata Control Observers daily
