Northam – On Tuesday 10 September at about 15:00, a landfill site in Northam caught fire. For five days the community of Northam had to endure an awful smell and choking smoke that filled every nook and cranny.

Three arrested for rhino poaching 

Modimolle – Three alleged rhino poachers, aged 31 to 37, were arrested on Wednesday 4 September after they were linked to a rhino poaching incident in Modimolle.  The three, who are accused of killing a rhinoceros before removing its horns, were nabbed at various locations during joint operations by the police, security companies and farmers around the Rankin’s Pass and Vaalwater areas.

Northam – On Thursday 5 September, three armed suspects entered a store and demanded cash. According to police spokesperson colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, the robbers assaulted two cashiers before they fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes. The suspects sped off in a white Audi and a BMW.
