Northam – What more is there to say about the continuous burning of waste and at the Northam Landfill site that hasn’t been said over the past few years – over and over again? We were traveling from Brits on Sunday 25 April, and I took pictures of the smoke polluting the Northam sky once again. We always hear that the issue is being delt with. I mean… really? The site is located next to Northam Primary, and close to residential and businesses areas. Do they know what a big health risk this is? Do they even care? When will they find meaningful solutions to this ongoing problem? Our town smells like a garbage bin and our homes even worse. How can they expect people to invest in a community where you are overpowered by the smell of burning garbage all the time? Pin on the Nose
Northam – The Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) is hereby giving notice about sections 14(1), 10(2), 8(1) and 19 (1) of the Thabazimbi Local Municipality Refuse Removal By-law No.2126 of 2012, regarding illegal and indiscriminate dumping in and outside the boundaries of the Northam Landfill Site along the Northam-Brits road.

Eiers help vir alles! Ek het die uitstekende boereraat gekry wat my pitbull terriër se lewe gered het na hy vergiftig was. Een oggend voor die son al water begin trek het, kon ek dadelik sien my geliefde vierpoot kind is nie reg nie. Ek het terstond die veearts gebel vir ‘n afspraak – wat eers heelwat later kon plaasvind. Ek het myself getroos dat my ou Wagter nie te siek is nie en nog so bietjie kon wag. Kort na lank het hy ‘n draai vir die ergste gemaak en ek het besef dat hy vergiftig is. Ek moes vinnig plan sien en het ‘n ou raad oor rou eiers onthou. Ek het dadelik die twee rou eiers in sy keel afgegooi en voor ek my oë kon uitvee was Wagter heelwat beter. Later die dag by die dokkie het die veearts bevestig dat Wagter wel gif ingekry het. My veearts het egter aanbeveel dat sy lewe gered was deur eiers, maar dat jy dit nie vir diere moet toedien as hulle stuiptrekkings begin kry nie. Dit kan dalk veroorsaak dat hulle verstik en dan kan die gif vinniger na die longe versprei. Jy moet dit vang voor die konvulsies begin. Maar daai dag het dit Wagter, wat met een voet in die graf gestaan het, vinnig uitgehelp. Blykbaar help dit ook vir katgriep as jy dit met blousel en klein bietjie whisky meng... maar maak eers 100% seker by jou veearts voor jy net enigiets vir jou diere gee. Selfs al werk dit, maak maar altyd eerste ‘n afspraak by die dokkie, al is dit net vir jou eie gemoedsrus. Wagter se Eienaar

Thabazimbi – The THABA Fire and Rescue Volunteer Fire Department (TFR) is a group of brave men and women who (30-strong), voluntarily on their own time and dime, serve the community in all types of emergencies ranging from firefighting to home invasions and motor vehicle accidents. TFR is a registered non-profit company and have five responder vehicles.
SA – Eskom would like to inform the public of the commencement of regular wage talks with the company’s recognised labour representative unions, which started on 4 May. The talks are scheduled to end on 3 June 2021. Wage talks may be unpredictable and, depending on the positions taken by the parties, could result in tensions arising. Eskom would like to assure the public that it will do everything possible to attempt to reach consensus that is financially sustainable and in the best interest of its employees and the country. During the talks in the Central Bargaining Forum, Eskom will engage with the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA), and Solidarity, to determine the conditions of employment and wages for all non-managerial employees.
