Diary of a drug addict    [Letter to the editor]  

I had a good life, I used to be in a relationship, and I could see my daughter every day. It all started spiralling out of control the day that I was introduced to drugs… 06:00 - I need to wake up early to make a stop at my dealer, before work! 08:00 - I’m busy at work. Everything feels so much easier than before. I can hear sounds no one else can. I’m stronger than everyone else. This is easy… 17:00 - I did nothing at work today, in the moment I felt like I did so much. I feel bad about myself, the guilt is too much, I need to make a stop at my dealer, to take this feeling away. I need to feel strong again. 19:00 - I lost more weight again.

Mayor house robbery: Second suspect in court   

Lephalale – A woman who is allegedly part of a five-member gang involved in robbing Lephalele mayor Jack Maseko’s home, has been arrested. Portia Kgama, a Mozambican national, appeared before the Phalala Magistrates’ Court on Friday 9 April after she was arrested in Gauteng.

Car accident on R510

Northam – Three people were injured in a motor vehicle accident on the R510 near Northam on Wednesday 24 March. The accident occurred after a Chevrolet bakkie and a Chevrolet sedan collided head on. Trauma Rescue arrived on the scene and two of the injured persons were transported to Rustenburg and the third person to Thabazimbi. Northam – Northam Police captain Pieter du Plessis called a meeting with several business owners on Thursday 4 March.The purpose of the meeting was to ask business owners for financial assistance to support the operation of surveillance cameras in Northam. The cameras are already in place and yielding fruit. The camera system is responsible for a huge breakthrough in not only preventing crimes, but also in catching criminals from as far as Rooiberg as they pass through Northam.

Lephalale – Police in Lephalale have arrested a 39-year-old suspect in connection with the murder of a 40-year-old security guard. Matshembe Maphambanyene’s body was discovered in the guard room at the weigh bridge along the N11 road next to the Groblersbrug border post on Friday 19 March.

Thabazimbi – Sylvia van der Berg en ‘n passasier was betrokke in ‘n ernstige motorongeluk op die Marakele-pad op Sondag 14 Maart. Sy was besig om te bestuur (rigting Marakele) toe haar motor se band bars. Die voertuig het begin rol en Sylvia is in die proses uit die kar geslinger. Haar sleutelbeen is gebreek en sy het ‘n hoofwond opgedoen asook verskeie snye oor haar gesig wat steke moes kry. Die passasier het gelukkig slegs geringe beserings opgedoen maar is getraumatiseerd.

Setaria – Die Vroue Landbou Unie (VLU) Strewe-tak het die Bosveldstreek mini-konferensie te Lephalale bygewoon op Donderdag 11 Maart. Die samesyn is deur die VLU-bestuur aangebied en was die ideale geleentheid vir lede van die streek om saam te kuier.

Zeerust – WhatsApp groups dedicated to conservation in the North West province were pinging on Wednesday 10 March as wildlife vet and Tshwane University of Technology lecturer Dr Paul Bartels shared details of an elephant that had been spotted with a tyre around its neck at the Rietfontein Game Farm, north of Zeerust by he Braklaagte-Lekubu community.
